2013 Comtes de Champagne

We are going to kick off the Labor Day Weekend with a jaw dropping pricing, the lowest prices in the United States, on one of Champagne’s most storied wines - 2013 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne. This is a wine I haven’t had available to sell after the sell-out last June.

Only produced in the finest vintages, this cuvee of 100% Chardonnay is made from grapes grown in the pure chalk of the Grand Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs;  Avize, Cramant, Chouilly, Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger. If there is one wine that showcases everything you could ask for in Grand Marque Champagne, it would be the Comtes de Champagne from Taittinger.

I have now sampled this cuvee on 3 occasions and it has delivered every single time.  It's chiseled, taut, fresh and amazingly light on its feet with a finish that never seems to end. An absolutely stunner that ranks up there with the best Comtes de Champagne ever produced!

This stock will arrive before the end of the year. There are only 96 bottles available, so grab some at this price before it is gone! Sorry Grower Club, this is discounted to the bone, so no further discounts will apply. NO CODE REQUIRED.

— STORY —

“Comtes de” is a French term that translates to “count of.”  We’re not speaking about math, but rather a ruler.  In the context of Taittinnger’s prestigious  Champagne, it pays homage to the historical significance and noble heritage of the Champagne region.

By producing a vintage Champagne like Comtes de Champagne in exceptional years when the grape quality and growing conditions are favorable, Taittinger can showcase the unique characteristics and terroir of that specific growing season in the final product. Each vintage of Comtes de Champagne reflects the nuances and flavors specific to that particular year, making it an extremely special Champagne.

This cuvée is created using juice from the first press only.  A small percentage (5%) of the blend is aged in fresh oak barrels to create the very delicate balance of toasted notes in the final wine.  It is very much the signature house style, with that linear component that chardonnay grown in this chalky soil displays.  However, with time in bottle the wine takes on a richness and complexity matched by few Champagnes.
