2022 Domaine Clos des Rocs Pouilly Loche Les Mures

Domaine Clos des Rocs has long been filed under “big bang for your buck.” Consistently, they have delivered incredible quality far exceeding what you’d expect for the price. This year is one of the finest examples I have yet tasted - and I’ve tasted just about everything they have produced! While I’d be happy to lay this success all at the feet of the domaine, THIS VINTAGE IS TRULY SHAPING UP TO BE SOMETHING SPECIAL!

As I taste more of the 2022 wines (just got though 15 or so from an importer this afternoon), it hammers home the impression I formed in December during my last vintage:  2022 is tremendous for both reds and whites.

But back to Clos des Rocs Pouilly Loche Les Mures specifically…. The texture and feel of the wine has more flesh and fruit versus the leaner and racier 2021’s.  You would characterize 2022 as a ripe vintage: round, rich, easy and giving, yet by no means does this wine lack in acidity or cut.  Often, these qualities are paradoxical. It’s rare to find them together.

While it doesn’t have the penetrating jaw hurting acidity that we saw with 2017, it does have elegance, balance and a finish that shows off the minerality and mouth coating flavors that we come to expect from top White Burgundy vintages. The palate is one that builds on entry. It’s delicate with a slight salinity accentuating the lip smacking, mineral driven finish that then comes in waves.  

I’m excited by the possibilities we all have yet to discover with 2022! And in particular, I’m thrilled by Domaine Clos des Roc’s 2022.  

This wine is first rate! It absolutely knocked me out when I tasted it!
