2022 Domaine Jomain / Jomain Freres
You’re a Billy-Joel-loving fool if you clicked on that corny click bait. But YOU’LL BE WELL REWARDED and delighted with this wine!
If you have ever dined at Le Montrachet in Puligny Montrachet there is a good chance you have walked by the residence of Domaine Jomain / Jomain Freres. And if you have not visited the restaurant, before I dive into the wine, make note, these two are neighbors in one of the world’s most renowned wine districts and Le Montrachet recently received a Michelin Key award.
I have been on pins and needles anticipating the arrival of the Domaine Jomaine’s 2022s for a while now!
It's a decent sized estate at 9 hectares in size, producing a wide range of wines from Aligote to Batard Montrachet. I got a chance to visit the cellars in 2021 and to taste through the entire range, which allowed me to discover the two stars of the cellar: Bourgogne Cote D’Or Chardonnay and Meursault Tillets.
The Bourgogne Cote de Or is exactly what you seek as a Burgundy buyer. The citrus leaning nose, expansive mouthfeel, mineral driven mid palate and lip smacking finish is a white Burgundy drinker’s dream. As a retailer, it’s what I buy, if I can, by the pallet. Be happy these wines get little press, otherwise, you’d pay $150.
At $29/btl, you’re crazy to not scoop up a case. For those looking for an elevated white Burgundy experience this is a gem!
