2021 Tenuta di Trinoro Le Cupole
If I’m writing about a Bordeaux blend, or offering one for sale, it's got to be something special! It’s not the first wine that I look for, and consequently, you’ll find offerings few and far between. The 2021 Tenuta de Trinoro Le Cupole is that breakthrough wine I’m here to tell you about! WOW!
A sales rep came by yesterday presenting a lineup of Barolo wines (none of which I found all that exciting). After passing on everything he had one more wine he wanted me to taste… which for some mysterious reason, hadn’t been included initially.
Talk about burying the lead! It’s possible this young rep didn’t know or trust his own palate… but why he presented this as an afterthought still boggles my mind. It was head and shoulders above the more expensive Barolo I had declined earlier in the tasting. “The 2021 Tenuta di Trinoro Le Cupole is impressive!” and this is an understatement!
The dark color draws you into a pure blackberry, black cherry nose that offers layers of spice with depth you would expect in a far more expensive wine. These dark, deep wines can be monolithic and clunky, but one of the things I find most enjoyable about this wine is the texture and elegance it displays. It's rather light on its feet. Don’t let the 15% alcohol scare you, there is plenty of fruit here and I didn’t find the finish to offer any sign of heat.
If you like Bordeaux-styled wines, with great texture and flavor, you are going to be very happy with this one. I believe it is something exceptional. Given its $36 price, you will be hard pressed to find a wine of better quality in the sub $60 price range.
